I haven't posted anything lately about Korea. Our youngest daughter Hilary has been serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day-Saints for almost 6 months now. She's been in Korea for over 3 months. She e-mails every week and so far she loves it. She loves the country, culture, and most importantly the people. She is doing better all the time with the language, but says it has been challenging to be able to say everything she wants to. But they are impressed with her. She has explored a little and has the best stories. She has had some incredible experiences and some difficult ones too. But nothing too awful; with the exception to some of the food. She has eaten dog and hated it. The picture showing the two big chunks of meat is dog. She has eaten octopus, (also a picture of that)and didn't like it because it was prepared so spicy it about killed her. The winter has been cold and grey. But now it's getting warmer and more humid. She has lived in three different places now too. We look forward every week to hear about how she is doing and what she has been doing. So far I haven't worried about her. I feel confident that she is being protected and blessed in everyway. She is an incredible strength to me and her family. We are very grateful for who she is and what she stands for. Thank goodness that there are tens of thousands more just like her. These righteous warriors make the world a lot better place and give us hope that there are young people willing to give up their worldly pursuits for a couple of years for service to God's children all over the world. The missionaries applying since October of last year has increased 471%. From 700 a week to 4,000 a week. It is unprecedented. There are over 347 missions worldwide. And these missionaries (or their families) are funding their own expenses. Talk about selflessness and making a difference for good. Nothing of worth is easily obtained, it must be earned to be of value. Statistics source from Deseret News, Published: Monday, Jan. 7 2013

You Don't See This Everyday

Last weekend while skiing I was going up the lift when it stopped and was delayed for a bit. Wondering why; a few minutes later this is what was on the lift going down. The search and rescue team with their dogs. They were doing avalanche training on the backside of the mountain. I loved seeing the dogs on the lift. They were adorable. The German Shepherd sure looked a lot like my Drake. Made me miss him. There were a lot more dogs too.Over 6 dogs. This was my first time seeing something like this. Made me wish I was part of search and rescue. The first picture is while on the lift, then I skied down half way to get the other picture. I was glad I had my phone with me. Poor quality, but hey, I got the picture.
